Small Business Saturday
Saturday 5th December is Small Business Saturday, and the government is going to be promoting this campaign, with a ‘Search Local – Shop Local’ message this week and in the run up to Christmas.
The Small Business Saturday website includes a small business finder. It is free for businesses to register themselves on the Small Business Saturday website, so please if you are a small business and you’re not listed, get your details onto their website: https://smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com/#get-involved
Shout up if you would like to get involved with the campaign. Send me your photos and a case study and I can forward them on to be included in the campaign.
Here is an example of a local business post from @HMGNorth: https://twitter.com/HMGNorth/status/1333389860485394434
I will also be promoting the business listings on Discover Penrith via Small Business Saturday, so if you haven’t checked your web page for a while, now’s the time to make sure it’s up to date.
If you need help getting logged onto the site to update your page, or if you need help uploading information then just let me know and I’ll be happy to help: https://www.discoverpenrith.co.uk/members/
Reopening – what changes are you making?
From Wednesday businesses will be opening back up again. However, it is important that we reassure shoppers and customers that Penrith is a safe place to shop and visit.
I will be leaving the Covid-19 page live on the website: https://www.discoverpenrith.co.uk/penrithcovidupdate/
I want to update it to let people know how they can shop safely for Christmas 2020. So, if you are going to be carrying on delivery/ click and collect / support services then please let me know and I can update your details on the page and also promote your offering via social media. I know a number of places will be carrying on offering click and collect / video tours of the store for customers who do not want to risk shopping in person.
We’ve had over 34,000 views of the Christmas Lights Switch On, so this has been a great success promoting the town. I’ll be promoting stills from the video throughout December and it would be great to have pictures of your Christmas Windows as well. Please email or DM me with any festive scenes you have that I can use on social media.
Penrith Online Shopping Portal
BID are researching ways to enable ecommerce for retailers across the town. At the moment discoverpenrith.co.uk has functionality for promotions, but does not allow sales. At the next board meeting we have invited a representative from ShopAppy to present their offering.
If you have questions or comments you would like to be raised, please email them to me by Friday 11th December and I can get answers for you.
Finally, a personal message from me. Good luck on Wednesday to all those of you who are reopening your doors to customers. Please keep yourselves safe and get in touch if you need any help or support.
To those of you who never closed, keep going! It’s been a tough year, but hopefully our wonderful Penrith community will continue to #ShopLocal #ShopPenrith.
For those of you who have taken the difficult decision to stay closed for the time being, we are still here to help and support you in whatever way we can.
As I’ve said before, we’re in this together and we’ll support each other through it.
