Penrith Sparkle: Christmas plans

We have already been hard at work planning the festive lights for Penrith. This year we are going for a Winter theme, with the lights being in place from 20th November, rather than waiting until December.  The aim is to encourage visitors to town earlier in the season in the hope they will also enjoy some in-store Christmas shopping. With the ongoing issues with delivery drivers, it is hoped there will be a national trend away from online shopping.

Marketing: Indications are that people are going to shop early for Christmas this year, due to uncertainty with prices and stock levels. If you have an offer or promotion you’d like advertising on social media then please get in touch. We’ll be doing a campaign throughout late November and December to encourage people to #ShopLocal #ShopPenrith, so I need as much content as possible. Text and images if possible please.  Get your contact over as soon as possible to ensure it is added to the schedule.

Virtual Switch On: We’ll be having another ‘Virtual Lights Switch On’ this year. We’ve got a videographer on standbye to capture some new town centre footage. If you’ll have a festive window display in place by Monday 15th November and you would like to be featured in the video, please get in touch to let me know before Monday 25th October. Please note, you will be asked to leave your lights on for the evening when the video is shot – if your window it not lit up enough to be captured well on film then the recording company will have to make the decision not to film on the night..

Due to the uncertainties of the pandemic, we will not be organising an in-town switch on event, but we will be encouraging people to take multiple trips to town to see the lights.

Lighting Theme: Whilst the town centre angels remain, there have been some changes to refresh the lighting theme this year.  There will be new lights around the clock tower and the theme will not include any mini trees.
