Penrith BID wins Britain in Bloom

Penrith named ?The Jewel in Cumbria?s crown!?

So say the judges at this year?s Finals of Britain in Bloom when the Gold standard and top award went to Penrith at the Royal Horticultural Society Award presentation.

The judges went on to say ?Penrith is a fine example for all communities to follow in creating new, constructive and innovative projects. Through careful investment Penrith BID team has demonstrated brilliant value for money. Business partnerships are clearly evident but above all this integrated approach to volunteer involvement with the community gardeners and the sense of pride shone through.?

Justin Wales who manages projects including the floral planters in Penrith on behalf of Penrith BID commented, ?what an achievement, we were up against far bigger towns. It goes to show what effective teamwork can achieve.?

The Judges picked out for special merit the good quality planting by The Pot Place (who planted up the floral displays), The Lion Gallery, the wildflowers borders and the railway station.

Representatives at the prestigious ceremony held in Llandudno came from all part of the UK and as far away as Guernsey, Fife and Northern Ireland. The final presentation of the evening was awarded to Joan Robinson community gardener in Penrith. She was presented with the RHS Community Champion Award for her volunteer gardening activities in the town.

Afterwards Joan commented, ?it is amazing how many people and businesses are helping to transform our town by working together. So much more can be achieved if we encourage everyone to do a bit. Thank you to all those who has made a difference this year.?
