Our Response to Cumbria County Council proposed road closures

We know many of you are concerned about the proposed ‘traffic calming’ plans which are being put in place by Cumbria County Council from Saturday. To give you an update, Penrith BID did attend the working party meeting last week and we have been involved in the process of looking at traffic calming to ensure the safety of the public and comply with social distancing. However, Penrith BID do not agree with the outcome, or the proposal from CCC to close the town centre to traffic.
We are still in talks with CCC, along with Penrith Chamber of Trade and Commerce. Please see attached the letter which was sent to CCC earlier this week explaining our joint position.
Discussions are ongoing and at a meeting this morning CCC asked us to propose a better solution. If you would like to be included in this process, please email me back with your suggestions for a way forward. We are looking for ways to keep the public safe and ensure social distancing can take place. At the moment we are trying to find a workable solution which will keep everyone safe and keep the town centre open for business.
