Discover Penrith at Christmas
Discover Penrith at Christmas
The #ShopLocal #ShopPenrith campaign has been a real success, and we want to build on it in the run up to Christmas. Our wonderful community are getting in touch asking what shops will be promoting over the festive season and if they will have special delivery or click and collect options. People have also asked to be able to see shop promotions online, so they can decide what they want to purchase before they come into town.
Our website already has the functionality to support you adding on offers and promotions. Please start getting your key promotions onto the website, so we can direct people to look there to find out what’s on offer in our fantastic town.
If you need help with setting up your promotion, just get in touch. It’s really easy to do from the member logon page https://www.discoverpenrith.co.uk/members/ From the dashboard, just click the ‘Add Promotion’ star and fill in all the details.
As always, if you need help or support then just ask. I can set these up for you, it’s all part of your levy service.
I’m also in the process of updating the ‘Welcome Back’ page, into a ‘Discover Penrith at Christmas’ page. It would be great to have images on there of festive lines you are now stocking. Also, if you’re planning any late night opening to allow for social distancing, or if you’re taking bookings now and keeping the kiddies pressies hidden for mums and dads until Christmas week?
Please get in touch and let’s let our community know how they can Shop Local this Christmas.
Christmas Lights Virtual SwitchOn
On 21st November, there will be a ‘Cozy at Home’ Lights Switch On, where we will stream a video of the town centre lights coming on. We won’t be having an in-town event, for obvious reasons. We’ll be recording a video earlier in the week, which is then edited and streamed on social media. It would be great to have some festive windows to include, so if you are able, please decorate your shops windows on or before Monday 16th November and we’ll send the Christmas video elves around to get footage of them.
Also, we’d love to have some ways of making the community come together virtually, whilst they stay safe in their own homes. Perhaps a mulled wine recipe they can make, or mince pies of festive snacks to enjoy. Or maybe that evening they can write their Christmas cards….if you have things in stock, or ideas I can use to promote a count down to the virtual switch on, please let me know.

Chancellor increases financial support for businesses
The Chancellor announced increased support for businesses:
- open businesses which are experiencing considerable difficulty will be given extra help to keep staff on as government significantly increases contribution to wage costs under the Job Support Scheme, and business contributions drop to 5%
- business grants are expanded to cover businesses in particularly affected sectors in high-alert level areas, helping them stay afloat and protecting jobs
- grants for the self-employed doubled to 40% of previous earnings
As well as the above, full details of the support available to businesses, including the Job Support Scheme and Local Restrictions Support Grant, can be found using the Business support finder tool.
