Today’s key updates include: a statement by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care on the tiering review; the extension of the furlough scheme and Covid-19 business loan schemes; and a joint statement from the UK Government, Scottish Government and Welsh Government on staying safe at Christmas.

Review of coronavirus tiering restrictions
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has today made an oral statement to the House concerning the review of coronavirus tiering restrictions in England. The oral statement can be seen at bit.ly/37wX7Rv and his written statement is available at bit.ly/3ainSKX.

Extension of the furlough scheme and business loan schemes
Also today, the Chancellor announced an extension of the furlough scheme until the end of April 2021, with the government continuing to contribute 80% towards wages.

The Chancellor also confirmed that he would be extending the government-guaranteed Covid-19 business loan schemes until the end of March. See bit.ly/3gXSTVY for further details.
